Hace poco me enteré que viene en camino un documental muy interesante llamado
"The U.S. versus John Lennon"que rescata la labor pacifista de
John Lennon y su compañera
Yoko Ono durante los años setenta. Vi los prólogos con mi hijo en el disco de la película de Leonard Cohen. Sentí que se trataba de algo importante y vigente. Ayer en Multiplaza, en la tienda de discos Vértigo me encontré el cd con la banda sonora del filme y no dudé en comprarlo. La película también ya la encargué a través de
Amazon.com. Saldrá a la venta el 13 de febrero de este año que viene. A mi en estas cosas no me duele gastar, para nada.
Regresamos a casa cantando
Give Peace a Chance y subimos la cuesta del garage con
Imagine. Apagamos el carro y subimos el volumen esperando que terminara la canción antes de abrir la puerta. Eran casi las doce de la noche. Fue muy emotivo para mi cantarla junto a mi hijo nacido en 1992 y que ambos pudiéramos sentir al mismo tiempo el valor e importancia de su mensaje. Esa es la razón por al cual la comparto por aquí , y justo el día que se ha dado en llamar "el Día de los Inocentes". Por eso esta vez no quiero hacer bromas, sino ponerme seria, seria pero esperanzada. Ojalá creamos que es posible parar la guerra ( la guerra grande en general, esa de misiles y balas, pero también todas las guerras, las que peleamos contras las personas, las internas, las que asumimos como corazas para no escuchar a quien piensa distinto, las guerritas internas que no nos dejan ser quienes realmente queremos ser y nos distraen ) Ojalá creamos que es posible de verdad cambiar el mundo, con profunda certeza, y aplicar los valores éticos en los que creemos no sólo para lo que nos conviene o con lo que estamos de acuerdo, sino desde adentro, parejo, de verdad, de corazón...si no, no hay verdadera voluntad de cambio, de paz, esa paz que como dijo

Alguna gente , cuando me ve salir con estas ideas me dice ilusa, soñadora, cándida, y hace poco andaba con aquello de "palanganas", porque eso me dijeron por la actitud que intento asumir con respecto a los temas nacionales , haciendo llamados al respeto y al abrazo y no sólo desde las palabras, sino desde los actos de todos los días.
Oyendo estas canciones de nuevo, no puedo más que sentir reforzarse en mi estas convicciones, que no miento, a veces se me debilitan...sobre todo cuando veo tanto dolor, violencia, odio, incomprensión, mentira, deseos de venganza e injusticia. Hablo de problemas políticos y sociales globales, hablo de la situación en Centroamérica, de la de mi país y los temas que han provocado tanta polarización y dualismo , y hablo de pequeños problemas personales, familiares, incluso luchitas íntimas dentro de mi misma , las inevitables contradicciones que me alejan de lo que realmente soy.
Pero si hay una verdad es que todo lo que es arriba es abajo. Cada vez me convenzo más de que todo es más simple de lo que parece y tanta elucubración teórica, tanto libro empolvado, tanto experimento social, tanta complicación en el mundo lo único que ha logrado es hacer ruido, distraernos, entorpecernos el camino de la luz, del amor, en fin: el de la paz...y que a su búsqueda, por ella y hacia ella vinimos a este mundo todas y todas.
Tengo también la profunda convicción de que la primera batalla la debemos ganar en nuestro interior...¿ cómo vamos a poder trabajar por la paz si dentro nuestro nos sentimos derrotados, derrotadas, resignados, desesperanzadas? Si creemos que las fuerzas oscuras del odio y el mal son más poderosas y nunca se podrán transformar? Si no creemos en la fuerza de la verdad, del amor, si no confiamos ? ¿ Para qué buscarlas si no sabemos lo que es el gozo, el placer? ¿ Si no sabemos regalarnos nunca alegría ni a nosotros mismos?
Por eso copio seguidamente un texto de
Yoko Ono que trae el librito del disco y recomiendo a quien pueda buscar el documental y usarlo como muestra de que el mensaje existe, está vigente, y vale la pena atenderlo. Lo pongo en inglés porque no soy buena traductora.

Give Peace a ChanceFrom the very first moment John and I saw each other, we knew something was about to happen- something big-. We just didn´t know how big. When John an I sang " Give Peace a Chance" from our bed in Montreal, we had no idea the song would become an anthem not only for our time but for generations to come. It went around the world, and made other songwriters realize that yoy can convey political messages with songs. Millions of people got together and joined in its chorus. Singing it together made all us realize that we were a power strong enough to change the world. Little did we know that that´s when we, John and I, really made our beds for life.
Both of us experienced World War II from two opposite sides. We knew what it meant to be in the war. We knew how, suddenly, you could lose everything. We knew that people like us were the ones who really suffered, and the Generals and the politicians just kept dishing out lies to keep us pacified. That was an insult to kids like us. Two angry people. That´s was we were. So when we met and hugged each other, our back bones literally relaxed. Let´s change the world for the better together. YES! Never in millions years, did we think that promoting World Peace could be dangerous. Were we naive? Yes, on that account, we were. John sings on the CD " Nobody told me there´d be days like these". That was his true confession. "Gimme Some Truth", another song in this collection, is a song only John could write and sing. It´s a John Lennon special born out of that unmistakable Liverpool attitude. Nobody would ever write a song like this and sing it the way John did.
The songs in this collection aren´t just about peace; the also focus on issues of social injustice that were so important to us back then, like "Attica State". John was inspired to voice the injustice in the world he saw. He did it quickly just like the editorials of the daily papers.
What´s fascinating to me is how these songs, taken from the original albums and used as score for the film, are given a whole new life. " I Don´t Want to Be A Soldier Mama" and "Here We Go Again",tragically speak to life in our 21st Century. These songs have become relevant all over again. It´s almost as if John wrote them for what we are going through now.
The filmmakers have chosen his best songs: powerful and insightful. There are the political slogans, "Give Peace A Chance" and "Power to the People" as well as the deep and tender songs like "Love" and "Scared", songs from his heart that still touch us today.
Watching this films triggers in me memories of wonderful times, frightening moments, great victories and the final heartbreak- the moment the world stopped for me- and for so many people around the globe. At its heart is a story of a man who was driven to make a better world for all of us. I believe John would have loved this film. It´s not tabloid, but rather it tells it like it was. "Gimme Some Truth," indeed.
I ´ll say no more. The songs speak for themselves. By listening to them, you will get the energy and power of a guy who believed in what he wrote, lived to sing them and died at the prime of his life as a singer/songwriter.
